Interim Adarsh probe report today

April 13, 2012 01:42 am | Updated November 17, 2021 10:50 am IST - Mumbai:

The Maharashtra government-constituted two-member Adarsh judicial commission will submit an interim report to the government of Maharashtra on Friday. The sealed report will decide on two critical issues – the ownership and reservation of the land where the controversial Adarsh building came up.

The main issues of contention about the controversial society are — whether the ownership rights of the land in question belong to the State government or to the Ministry of Defence; and whether the plot of land was reserved for the families and widows of Kargil war heroes.

But both the Ministry of Defence and the State government have told the Commission that the land was not reserved for the families of Kargil war heroes, senior advocate for the Government of Maharashtra, Anil Sakhre, told The Hindu on Thursday.

Regarding the contention about the ownership of land, the State government has said that the land belongs to it, while the Ministry of Defence claimed ownership based on the adverse possession principle, Mr. Sakhre said.
