Come January 2014, Victoria Memorial Hall, this city’s iconic heritage museum, will play host to the annual Kolkata Literary Meet. “The settings of Victoria Memorial Hall will provide the right ambience to the literary meet. It is only appropriate to that the event in the city is held at the museum,” Jayanta Sengupta, secretary and curator of the hall, told The Hindu on Sunday. Book lovers are expected to have a unique experience from January 25 to 30. The foundation of the museum, referred as the “Taj of the Raj”, was laid in 1906. Over the years the city’s literary meet has emerged as a prominent gathering of littérateurs, similar to the ones like the Jaipur Literary Festival. Mr. Sengupta dismissed environment activists’ concerns that the conference might have an adverse affect on the memorial as “misplaced and unfounded.”
