The rightwing outfit Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS), on Monday demanded a ban on MTV Splitsvilla reality show accusing it of “eroding culture and morality of the Indian youth.”
The HJS has also demanded a censorship for TV shows as “everything goes on air without proper checks and edits.”
MTV Splitsvilla , is an Indian television reality show that airs on MTV India . Based on the American dating reality show Flavor of Love, the Indian version revolves around young boys and girls who try to secure a place in a Splitsvilla – a villa .
It's a 'hunt for love' show where boys and girls compete in tasks to stay in the competition and mingle with the contestants to find love. In the end, one boy and one girl are crowned the winners of Splitsvilla.
As per reports, this show ran into many controversies like sexual exploitation and racial slur, the outfit’s national spokesperson Ramesh Shinde said.
“The impact of such reality shows is tremendous, so much so that it erodes culture and morality of our youth, who are the future responsible citizens of this country, he said.
Referring to the views expressed by one of the participants, Scarlett Rose, Goa's upcoming model and current heartthrob of the popular MTV India , on Facebook and the Goa Chronicle website, Mr. Shinde said, “Her concept of freedom is to be allowed to wear short skirts, strap dress and bikinis. This mindset is western and has no place in our Indian culture and society.”
Questioning the credibility of the show, Mr. Shinde condescendingly recalled in the HJS press release that the show was launched this year by pornography star Sunny Leone.
“Our country is plagued with the problem of rape and sexual harassment of women and such programmes add fuel to fire,” he said reiterating the demand for ban and censorship over such programmes.
