In a case of rivalry between two top militants, a terrorist belonging to Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) shot dead his commander during a shootout in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday, police said.

Chota Bashir, district commander of the outfit in Doda and his newly recruited associate Abdul Lateef exchanged fire in Lolore area this morning, in which the former was killed, they said.

The two turned rivals after Chota Bashir took over as the district commander in Doda following Bashir Lohar’s surrender to the army last month, police said.

Lateef later surrendered to troops of the 10 Rastriya Rifles (RR) and an AK rifle and ammunition was recovered from him, they said, adding the body of the slain militant has been recovered.
