A sudden heavy downpour threw normal life out of gear in the city, electrocuting one person in the flash floods that played havoc with the vehicular traffic.

Low lying areas in various parts were inundated last night as rain water gushed into many residential societies even as a large number of two wheelers and cars were stranded helplessly in the flooded streets.

A 25-year-old youth was electrocuted in Vadgaon area while he was wading his way through waist high water that carried high voltage current from a nearby electricity pole, fire brigade said.

Fire brigade men had to be called in to rescue the stranded vehicles and people, caught unaware by the heavy spell that lasted for about two hours during which 24mm of rainfall was recorded.
