Hearing on Tejpal’s bail plea next week

February 12, 2014 03:13 am | Updated May 18, 2016 07:32 am IST - PANAJI:

The Bombay High Court in Goa on Tuesday posted for hearing next week the bail application by Tehelka editor-in-chief Tarun Tejpal, accused of sexually assaulting a female colleague.

In the written submission moved before the High Court last week, with a plea for revision of last month’s order of the District Sessions Judge, who rejected Mr. Tejpal’s bail application, his lawyers have argued that the present offence was not a political offence, although it was the applicant’s submission that the prosecution’s attempt to keep the applicant in custody was political.

When the case was mentioned on Tuesday, Judge Mridula Bhatkar posted the matter for next week.

Mr. Tejpal has challenged the order of the District Sessions Court, Panaji, to deny bail, on a matter of law. Both the matters will be taken together next week.

Mr. Tejpal is now in judicial custody at the Sada Sub-jail in Vasco.
