State-run Gujarat State Fertilizers & Chemicals Ltd will set up a ‘GSFC University’ on 28 hectares of land near Dumad village on the outskirts of Vadodara.
Gujarat State Fertilizers & Chemicals Ltd will set up a ‘GSFC University’ and the academic session will commence from Monday at a make-shift campus till the main infrastructure is set up.
“It will be the first university across the country where with the backing of GSFC, students will get robust industrial exposure and quality education at a very affordable cost,” GSFC’s Chairman and Managing Director S K Nanda told PTI here.
With the setting up of this university, GSFC, a leading fertilisers company, forays into education field. It is being established through an Act passed by the Gujarat Assembly in December 2014.
“It aims to be a bridge between industries and academia. We want this university to become a premier institute for learning and research where world-class standard of teaching with innovative approaches are adopted with need-based syllabus structuring, pedagogy and student training programmes,” Mr. Nanda said, adding that the university will be an institution of excellence on the lines of IIT.
“Initially, it will have a School of Technology, with an intake of 150 students, 75 each in mechanical and chemical branches for four—year degree course, 50 per cent students from Gujarat and remaining from outside the state,” he said.
At present, the school of technology will start in a make-shift campus situated at GSFC Training Institute here till its main campus is ready near Dumad village, Mr Nanda said.
With student and teacher exchange and training programmes in collaboration with reputed international institutes and sports facilities, the university will initially have a school of technology that starts offering undergraduate courses in five basic branches of engineering — mechanical, civil, chemical, electronics and environment sciences.
At a later stage, it will offer postgraduate and research opportunities in subjects which are cross-disciplinary. -- PTI
