Green defaulters get another chance

: From factories to restaurants, businesses that have been functioning without consent from the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) will get another chance to get permission, with the one-time waiver for late charges being extended.

All commercial and industrial establishments in authorised areas of the city are supposed to have a ‘consent to operate/establish’ from the DPCC, certifying that they comply with air and water pollution control norms. However, a large number of these units have been working without the DPCC’s consent. On March 22, the DPCC had decided in its board meeting to extend a one-time waiver of late payment charges to defaulters. The scheme was supposed to be available from April 1 till June 30.

On Friday, officials of the Environment Department and the DPCC decided to extend the scheme till August 15.

Inspections to continue

“We are extending the waiver scheme, but that doesn’t mean that the units will not be inspected regularly. Those found to be violating pollution norms will face action,” said a senior DPCC official.
