Seventeen kg of gold and cash were looted from the cargo truck of a private courier company on a national highway near Ahmedabad on Friday night.

“The truck was intercepted by a man dressed in police uniform. As soon as it stopped, five others joined him and drove the truck to a secluded place and took away 27 parcels worth Rs. five crore,” a police officer of the Bavla station said.

The robbers also snatched away the gun held by a guard in the truck.

“We have issued a red alert and started a probe,” he said.

Superintendent of Police (Ahmedabad rural) Nirlipt Rai told journalists that five teams had been dispatched to various locations.

In 2013, gold and cash worth Rs. 23 crore were looted from the courier company’s truck on the Ahmedabad-Rajkot National Highway. Within a few weeks, the police arrested several persons from north Gujarat.
