A 19-year-old teenager from South Goa was arrested by Goa police on Wednesday in connection with a hoax call of a terror attack on U.S. President Barack Obama.
He will be produced for police custody on Thursday before the JMFC court, said Margao Police.
Goa police said that the teenager had called Delhi police control-room from his mobile phone informing them that he overheard and recorded a conversation between three terrorists of planning a terror attack at Rajpath in New Delhi on January 26.
The U.S. President Barack Obama will be the chief guest for this year’s Republic Day parade.
Superintendent of Police, South Goa S.M. Prabhudesai, said that upon receiving information from the Delhi police control-room at around 10 a.m., the teenager was arrested and interrogated.
On interrogation, the teenager confessed that he spread false news to get ‘publicity’. They said that the teenager is an NCC cadet and wanted to go to Delhi to attend the Republic Day parade. However, he could not do so as he was not selected by the college. Police have seized his mobile phone.
The teenager’s mother and younger brother are also being questioned by the police.
Police said that a case has also been registered against the teenager under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Arms Act.
The case was registered on Wednesday in Cuncolim police station. Mr. Prabhudesai said that the investigation is still on.
