The Goa government has ordered an inquiry into the boat capsize off the Canaguinim beach in the southern part of the State on Tuesday in which three Russian woman tourists drowned.
“This is a very serious issue as the boat operator took the trip despite the bad weather,” Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar said here on Wednesday adding that the Tourism Department would regulate water sports. The tourists were not wearing the mandatory lifejackets. Lifeguards rescued 11 Russian tourists and three crew members of the water sports boat.
Captain of Ports James Braganza told presspersons that he would examine if such boats could be allowed into the deep sea. Action under the law would be taken against the boat operator.
The police have registered a case against the operator, Noby Barretto, under Section 280 (rash navigation of vessel) of the Indian Penal Code. The tour operator has also been booked.
The police said the bodies of Nikolaeva Tatiana, Bulastova Irina and Elena Kulikova were in the mortuary of the Goa Medical College Hospital at Bambolim.
