A Judicial Magistrate First Class court on Friday granted bail to Kenneth Silveira, 35, who was arrested by the Crime Branch of the Goa Police for allegedly posting fake information about Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar’s “death” on Facebook.
He was released on a personal bond of ₹10,000.
Mr. Silveira was arrested on Wednesday night, a day after he allegedly put up the post saying Mr. Parrikar, who is undergoing treatment in the U.S., was “no more”.
An FIR was filed after a local BJP worker submitted a complaint to the police, and Mr. Silveira was arrested, with investigators saying that he was not cooperating with the probe.
In a related development, people protested outside the police headquarters here on Friday, accusing the police of trying to muzzle free speech.
