Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said on Friday that he will ask Union Minister of State for Environment and Forests with Independent Charge Prakash Javdekar to scrap Western Ghat report of Kasturirangan Committee, during Mr. Javdekar's visit to Goa on June 2. Instead, the State would ask him to commission a more scientific report on eco-sensitive zones.
'If we go by Kasturirangan-Gadgil reports on existing Coastal Regulation Zone provisions, nearly 50 per cent of Goa will be deprived of any development,' Mr. Parrikar said.
Denying criticism that he was doing this to protect mining, he said that it is not only mining, but other businesses and industrial development will not be allowedin 50 per cent of this tiny coastal State, he said.
