Journalists from the Naxal-affected Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra have demanded an apology from BJP president Nitin Gadkari for his recent “objectionable comments about journalists” in Gadchiroli.
“On October 8, Nitin Gadkari addressed a farmers’ rally in Desaiganj of Gadchiroli district. He insulted journalists by saying that they work on special packages [bribes] in an open meeting. He also mimicked a cameraman of a news channel,” said a statement issued by the Gadchiroli Press Club on Wednesday.
“We demand that Nitin Gadkari tender an unconditional apology. Otherwise, all the journalists from district will boycott the BJP and not cover a single event or meeting of the party,” president of the press club Suresh Padmashali said in the statement.
