Four killed, 15 injured in a building-collapse in South Mumbai

Four people were killed and 15 others were injured after a front portion of a five-storied MHADA-cessed building collapsed in Pydhonie area of South Mumbai in the wee hours of morning today.

The front portion of the building, `Rahim’, collapsed at 1 am.

“Four people died and 15 injured after the front portion of the building came down. Maharashtra Housing and Development Authority had already given the residents the notice to vacate the building, for repair work. A contractor was also provided but they did not vacate,” a fire brigade official said.

The deceased have been identified as Fatima Khatri (63), Mohammed Salman Abdul Aziz Khatri (45), Sikander Baaul (22) and Zaheer Ali Khan (25).

“Of those injured, 10 persons have been discharged, while the remaining are recuperating at the J J Hospital,” the official said.

The fire officials today morning checked whether anyone was still trapped under the debris, but did not find anyone.
