Fog, cold wave continue to hit rail services

Train services are bogged down in the biting cold wave and thick fog across the northern and eastern plains, making the lives of lakhs of passengers miserable.

The Railways have announced cancellation, short termination and rescheduling of services. More than 173 trains were running behind schedule owing to fog. Some trains were delayed by more than the scheduled journey time. For instance, the New Delhi-Darbhanga Express is running more than a day behind schedule. Several other trains are delayed by more than 24 hours. Trains running through the breadth of the country like the one connecting Bhubaneswar and Mumbai have also been affected. The total number of trains rescheduled across the country from the points of origin is as high as 113.

The Railways have been forced to cancel several pair of trains up to January 1. The number of trains fully or partially cancelled stands at 111.
