Fodder scam: Lalu appears in Ranchi CBI court

RJD president Lalu Prasad Yadav on Monday appeared before a special CBI court in Ranchi, in connection with a fodder scam case.

The RJD president appeared before the special court in connection with the case number 38A/96 pertaining to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs. 3.31 crore from Dumka Treasury in undivided Bihar during the 1990s. Former MPs Jagdish Sharma and R.K. Rana also appeared before the court.

The case was registered against 47 accused, including Mr. Lalu Prasad.

Presently, there are only 29 accused left as 15 others had died, two turned approvers and one accused got relief from the high court.

Earlier Mr. Lalu was convicted on September 30, 2013 and sent to Birsa Munda Central Jail in Ranchi in RC case number 20A-96, before being granted bail by the apex court after he spent about two-and-a-half months in the jail. The incarceration led to his losing his Lok Sabha membership.
