A five-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered by an unknown assailant, who smashed her head and dumped the body near Kanpur Railway Station, police said on Friday.
The victim is daughter of a rickshaw-puller, whose disrobed body was found this morning in an old building near railway tracks with her head smashed with a rock, Superintendent of Police (SP), Kanpur City (East), Dev Ranjan Verma said.
The minor, a resident of Rail Baazar area of the city, went missing on the evening of November 18.
Her father has alleged that he was pushed out of the Rail Baazar police station on the same day when he went there to register a missing complaint of his daughter, according to Mr. Verma.
Initial investigations suggest that the girl was raped before she was killed by the accused. Forensic experts are probing the place of the crime and a dog squad is also present at the spot, Mr. Verma said.
He said that a case in this connection has been registered.
The victim’s body has been sent for post-mortem, only after which the nature of the crime will be clear.
The allegations by the father are also being probed, he said, adding that the case is being investigated from all angles and efforts are underway to nab the accused, Mr. Verma added.
