Five workers killed in factory blast in Raipur

The incident took place at a factory manufacturing detonating fuse at Abhanpur, located 30 km from Raipur

Five workers of a factory manufacturing detonating fuse, were killed in an explosion inside the factory in Abhanpur village located 30 km from Raipur, early morning on Friday.

“The blast took place at around 2 a m in the Navbharat Fuse Limited located in Abhanpur killing five workers,” Raipur district Superintendent of Police (SP) O.P. Pal told The Hindu .

“Seven workers, including a supervisor, were on night shift in the factory unit, but the supervisor and one worker managed to escape unhurt as they were not in the factory when the blast took place. The impact of the blast was so large that it brought down the entire factory unit killing five workers [present inside] on the spot,” informed Mr. Pal.

The SP said that the cause of the explosion would be clear only after an inquiry.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh expressed “grief” over the incident and asked the district administration to provide all possible help to the families of the deceased.
