Five members of the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist) surrendered before the 188th battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Kondagoan district of Bastar on Wednesday.

According to the 188th battalion of the CRPF, Massu Salam ( 26), Rainu Dugga (35), Rassu Mandavi (25), Jagnath Dugga ( 40) of the Barda dalam and Maniram Mandavi (34) of Kuttul Dalam of the CPI (Maoist) surrendered in presence of senior CRPF and police officers “due to constant pressure of security forces and disillusionment with the Maoist life style”.

The CRPF claimed that all five Maoists were involved in “anti-development and anti-regime activities” including demolition of school building, ashrams, IED blasts, disrupting road construction work and attacks on police and security forces.

“The officers welcomed the Maoists into the mainstream of society and assured them to provide all the benefits under Central and State Surrender and Rehabilitation Schemes,” said the CRPF 188th battalion in a statement.
