Five arrested for setting train coach on fire

April 20, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST - Bhubaneswar:

As many as 51 people were arrested on Sunday for torching a coach of Puri-Barbil Express train and ransacking Delang railway station.

GRP sources said the arrested belong to Gualipara village and nearby areas under the Delang police station limits in Puri district.

The arrest was made two days after a mob set on fire a coach of the train at Delang station and ransacked the station on April 17 following the death of a local boy who fell from a running train.

The boy, who was travelling in Barbil-Puri Express on Thursday night, tried to jump from the running train at Delang station but fell. The train did not have stop at the station.

The local people detained the train while it was returning from Puri on Friday morning and set on fire a general compartment. Though the coach was damaged badly, no passenger was hurt in the incident, a Railway spokesman said.

The mob also damaged furniture at Delang station, the official said. The locals are demanding stops at Delang and Kanas Road station.- PTI
