Panaji: A fire broke out at the main bus stand and the Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC) complex, which houses the transport department office, on Monday.

Director of Transport Nikhil Desai said, “There is a major damage to the enforcement and registration sections, and old records could be lost.” He said the department has ordered an inquiry into the incident.

Fire service officials said the cause of the fire was a short-circuit in one of the super markets at the KTC complex.

Eyewitnesses said clouds of dark smoke emanated from the bus stand premises, which alerted commuters and shopkeepers.

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar visited the bus stand, which is the state’s biggest, and is being used by thousands of commuters daily.
