FIR against former DIG Vimal Gupta

Two other cops also accused of graft

The Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) of the Goa Police on Wednesday registered a First Information Report (FIR) against former Goa Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Vimal Gupta and two police officers in a bribery case.

Mr. Gupta was recently relieved from his post.

Superintendent of Police, ACB, Priyanka Kashyap said that the FIR has been registered against Mr. Gupta who faces allegations of bribery to close a departmental inquiry, and sub-inspector Devyani Ambekar, her husband (name not known) and constable Chetan Moraskar, for attempting to bribe Mr. Gupta. Ms. Ambekar and Mr. Moraskar, who were facing the departmental inquiry, have been suspended.

The complaint was filed by former ACB Superintendent of Police Bosco George, who had investigated the allegations against Mr. Gupta. Ms. Kashyap said the FIR was filed after obtaining assent of the competent authority: State Chief Secretary and Vigilance chief Dharmendra Sharma.
