Ahmedabad police on Saturday lodged an FIR naming seven police men including two Inspectors of Bapunagar police station and others in the alleged custodial death of Shwetang Patel.

The Gujarat High Court on Friday had directed a CID (crime) probe while asking the police to register an FIR of Prabhaben, deceased’s mother, who approached it.

“The FIR has been lodged as per the High Court direction and the case has been handed over to the CID (crime) which has been mandated to probe the incident,” said a police official.

According to Prabhaben, Shwetang was picked from his residence in Bapunagar area along with four others and at police station, he was beaten up severely causing serious injuries in brain leading to his death.

However, the police maintained that Shwetang was involved in stone pelting and arson but did not clarify how he died.
