The police have arrested a Marathi film financier and his bodyguard from Kombadbhuje village in Ulwe for the murder of Omkar Aarne (21), whose body was found near Dehrang dam in Panvel on April 28.

The police said prime accused Nahushkumar Koli (37) had an extramarital affair with Aarne’s wife, Sudha (20), who was his wife Sapna’s niece. Senior police inspector Maloji Shinde of Panvel taluka police said that Aarne and Sudha were residents of Pune and got married two years ago. They often visited the Koli household in Ulwe, and Sapna left Mr. Koli in January after she learnt of his affair with Sudha. In March, Mr. Koli brought Sudha and Aarne to Ulwe and gave them a flat to stay. Mr. Shinde said that Aarne soon found out about the illicit relationship and picked up a fight with Sudha and Mr. Koli.

On April 27, Mr. Koli and his bodyguard Dharamveer Birendra Singh (24) took Aarne for a long drive and shot him dead using a gun belonging to another bodyguard, Narendrasingh Badlusingh Parihar (54). Mr. Koli and Mr. Singh have been remanded in police custody till May 25. Mr. Parihar will be produced before the court on Tuesday.
