Medical students in the State-run medical colleges will have to shell out more than double the existing fees from the next academic year.
State cabinet today approved proposal of fee hike in all the government-run medical colleges.
“The Government is spending huge amounts on the medical students. So, the fees are being increased after eight years,” an official from the Medical Education Department said.
The fee for MBBS course has been hiked from the current Rs 18,000 to Rs 45,000. In dental colleges, the fee would be Rs 33,000 (current- Rs 15,000), in Ayurveda as well as Unani colleges it would be Rs 18,000 (current- Rs 7,500).
The hike would be implemented from the academic year 2011-12.
