A 17-year-old girl from Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh was raped and killed by her father Ramesh Rajvar in Bhayander on the outskirts of Mumbai.
The police said the girl had come to Mumbai with her male friend Anil Rajvar and the two were residing in Bhayander for the past two months. The father who was against their relationship as they belonged to the same community had come to Mumbai and was residing with the co-accused Shivchand alias Rajiv Rajvar (42) in Bhayander. He managed to get the whereabouts of his daughter and visited her residence and persuaded her to leave her partner and brought her to Shivchand's place.
A few weeks later when the girl went to stay back with her boyfriend and returned after 10 days, the father got outraged and chalked a plan to ‘teach’ her a lesson, the police said.
Four days ago her father along with Shivchand took the girl to Borivali National park in western suburban Mumbai and the two took turns to rape her and then strangled her to death.
The police stumbled upon the case when Shivchand’s son found the girl missing from their home for the past three days. He then lodged a complaint with the local police.
“When Shivchand's son enquired with his father on the whereabouts of the girl, Shivanand got angry and shouted at him. He found something amiss and lodged a complaint with us. During interrogation the accused broke down and confessed to their crime,” investigating officer Vilas Mate told The Hindu.
“The accused father claims that he got angry with the girl returning to his partner. He told the police that as she brought dishonor to her family's reputation he there decided to rape and kill her,” added Mr. Mate.
The two have been booked for gang rape and murder.
