Encounter between troops, militants in Rajouri forest

Security forces and militants were engaged in a gun battle in a forest area in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir since Saturday morning, police said here.

Acting on intelligence inputs about the presence of militants in Baji Mahal forest in Dharamsal, about 146 kms from here, security forces assisted by police rushed to the area, they said.

As troops were moving in the forest area, militants started firing which was retaliated by them, police said adding, intermittent exchange of firing were going on between the two sides when last reports came in.

There was no report of any casualty so far.

Four to five militants are believed to be trapped in the cordon laid by Rashtriya Rifle troops, army and police in the forest area, they said.
