An encounter broke out between CRPF jawans and Maoists in Kaneri forest in Dhanora taluk of Gadchiroli district on Friday.
Acting on a tip-off, that there was a Naxal hideout in the forest area, jawans of CRPF 192 battalion rushed to the site.
On seeing the forces, the ultras started firing at them and in retaliation police also opened fire.
Meanwhile, police said Naxals have fled the area and firing has stopped.
No one from the police team was injured in the firing, police said, adding that search operations were still on.
