Eleven new police stations would soon be set up in Manipur to strengthen the force besides equipping them with sophisticated weapons to combat insurgents in the troubled State, officials said today.

Of the 11 police stations, three would be set up in Imphal East, two each in Imphal West and Bishenpur and four in Thoubal district.

Earlier, on September 1, during a cabinet meeting a decision to set up eight police stations in the State was taken.

However, in view of the requirement of more police stations, the State cabinet in its meeting on September 9 decided to open three more, officials said.

Necessary plans were being chalked out by the police department to equip the stations with modern weapons and latest information, they added.
