Eight persons died in a road accident in Gujarat

: Seven pilgrims and one volunteer died in a tragic accident when a speeding oil tanker hit two vehicles carrying pilgrims, on Monday. The accident took place on national highway when the pilgrims were on their way to Ashapura temple in Kutch.

Four persons died on the spot while four others died in hospital where they were rushed after the collison.

"The accident occurred on early Monday morning. The oil tanker hit three vehicles in which total eight persons have died and five others are under treatment in hospitals in Morbi and Rajkot," said a police official from Morbi town.

According to the police, all pilgrims were from central Gujarat and were on pilgrimage to attend the first day of Navaratri at Ashapura temple in Kutch.

The police have lodged a compliant against the tanker driver, who fled from the scene after causing the accident.
