Educationists hail proposal for IIM Odisha

July 11, 2014 01:08 pm | Updated 01:08 pm IST - BHUBANESWAR:

As the NDA government announced to establish an Indian Institute of Management in Odisha in Union Budget 2014-15, educationists and students hailed the decision saying the State would have presence of all three top national institutes – AIIMS, IIT and now IIM.

“After establishment of IIM in Odisha, the State will boast of having all the top three brands in higher education.

Apart from three institutes, Xavier University, Bhubaneswar and several professional institutes operating in the State gives an impression of Odisha being an education hub in eastern region,” said Omkar Nath Mohanty, educationist and former vice chancellor of Biju Patnaik University of Technology.

Mr. Mohanty said, “other professional institutes in the State should try to match with the quality education IIMs provide.

However, one should take pride from establishment of IIM in Odisha only when Odia students start qualifying to take admissions in IIMs in large numbers.”
