On Day Two of the registration process for admission to Delhi University, the number of applications swelled up to more than double the previous day’s figure. According to university officials, over 81,000 applications were received on its official portal on Thursday.
“As of 8 p.m. on Thursday, 81,524, candidates registered with the university. Of these, 21,589 have already made payments,” said Kirti Ranjan, Officer on Special Duty, Admissions.
The university began its online admission process on June 1 and 30,900 applicants registered that day itself. Varsity officials called the response “overwhelming”.
While some students complained the process was too technical and complicated, officials denied it saying they would not have received such a huge response if it had it been complicated.
“The fact that over 20,000 students have already paid the fee and registered with us shows how easy or tough the process is. If any student comes to us with a particular ‘technical difficulty’ that he or she is facing, we will resolve it,” Mr. Ranjan added.
The centralised Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) forms are available on DU’s website — www.du.ac.in. Students will have to make payments through Internet banking. The fee for general category students is Rs.100, whereas it is Rs.50 for SC/ST students.
In order to help students having difficulties in filling up the form, the university has asked individual colleges to keep their computer labs open. DU has also uploaded a video explaining the process of filling up the form on YouTube.
A total of 60,000 seats in various undergraduate programmes are up for grab and the last date for online registration is June 19. The first cut off will be announced on June 27.
Unlike previous years, when DU conducted the undergraduate admission registration process through both the online and offline modes, the system has been taken completely online from this year onwards.
The students are required to visit the college only once they qualify the cut-off for a particular course and need to get their admission finalised by the admissions committee of that particular college.
