Top Maoist killed in Bastar encounter

A Maoist in the rank of a commander was gunned down by the police on Chhattisgarh-Orissa border on Tuesday, the Chhattisgarh police claimed.

A Maoist in the rank of a commander was gunned down by the police on Chhattisgarh-Orissa border on Tuesday, the Chhattisgarh police claimed.

“Today (Tuesday) morning, our teams of the District Reserve Guard and the Special Task Force had an exchange of fire with the Maoists at Chandameta village on Chhattisgarh-Orissa border. The gun battle went on for about an hour. Our forces tactically retaliated forcing the Maoists to retreat. During the general search of the area, a dead body of a male Maoist along with a weapon was recovered,” informed Mr.S.R.P.Kalluri, the Inspector General (IG) of Police (Bastar range).

“The forces identified the dead body with the help villagers. It was that of the dreaded Maoist Arjun. He was Jan Militia Commander of Chandmeta area and the member Machkot Local Operating Squad of the Maoists. He was involved in the 2014 ambulance blast in which five CRPF men and two civilians died. He had also carried out killings of former Koleng village head Panduram Nag and Kandanar villager Puru,” claimed Mr.Kalluri.

The police team also recovered one country made 12 bore gun, 30 gelatin explosives rods, five detonators, electric wire, codex wire and Maoist literature from the spot of the encounter.
