On the day that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government decided to repair thousands of flats in eight localities predominantly inhabited by the victims of the 1984 Sikh riots, the state BJP demanded that it apologise to the next of kin of freedom fighters for equating its MLAs to them.
‘CM should apologise’
Relatives of 11 freedom fighters along with Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay visited Rajghat before expressing “serious concern” over Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s “intentional comparison” of freedom fighters with the MLAs of his party who had been arrested.
“We feel that Mr. Kejriwal has lost all ethics in life as only an unethical person can compare the sacrifices of freedom fighters with the present day’s political leaders like his MLAs,” said Mr. Upadhyay.
The BJP leader demanded that Mr. Kejriwal apologise or else the party would consider taking the matter all the way to President Pranab Mukherjee.
Delhi BJP Media in-charge Praveen Shankar Kapoor said that the party had sent a protest letter to Mr. Kejriwal asking him to apologise for his comment, which he made at a function a few days ago.
