Claiming that the Akali Dal-BJP alliance was the “true secular combination” in the country, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Saturday exhorted the Muslims not to get swayed away by the “malicious” propaganda launched by the Congress against BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.

According to an official release, Mr. Badal made the appeal while addressing a gathering after laying the foundation stone for the Islamia Public School in Ludhiana. He said that sensing its inevitable defeat, the Congress was leaving no stone unturned to create fear in the minds of minorities regarding Mr. Modi. He accused the Congress of pursuing a “divide and rule” policy for its vested political interests, and distorting the image of Mr. Modi was a part of this strategy. He impressed upon the Muslims to vote for Mr. Modi as only a seasoned politician and able administrator could lead the nation efficiently.
