Bihar government has ordered a probe into reports of ‘different cafes for different castes’ at the Sri Krishna Medical College Hospital (SKMCH) in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur town.
A number of newspapers and private channels carried reports on different cuisines for different castes in caste-ridden Bihar at a canteen at the prestigious medical college hospital in Muzaffarpur.
SKMCH superintendent Dr D K Choudhary said that students at the hospital used to have meals of their choice cooked at the canteen and pay more for it. “But we are persuading them to stop this practice.”
When contacted, state Health minister Nand Kishore Yadav said he would get the reports inquired into and take immediate steps to stop the “discrimination in arranging food at the canteen.”
“We have taken the matter seriously and asked the skmch authorities to immediately intervene”, state health department’s principal secretary C K Mishra said.
