Rashtriya Janata Dal president Lalu Prasad and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday condemned Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut’s demand that Muslims be disenfranchised to end vote-bank politics.
“It is highly objectionable. The country works according to the Constitution, and not by anyone’s statement,” Mr. Nitish Kumar told journalists here. Mr. Lalu Prasad said: “It is a very dangerous trend… Shiv Sena leaders always make such controversial remarks to polarise voters and foment hatred in society.”
However, BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain said Mr. Raut’s opinion might reflect the Shiv Sena’s perspective, but “every Muslim born in this country considers himself its citizen.”
