Death toll of elephants knocked down by train rises

Another elephant >knocked down by a train near Banarhat in the State’s Jalpaiguri district on May 30 succumbed to injuries on Tuesday, raising the death toll to five.

“An adult female elephant was injured in the incident that occurred between Banarahat and Binnaguri railway stations. She died at the Gorumara National Park where she was being treated,” Chief Conservator of Forest (Wild Life) North V.K. Sood told The Hindu over telephone.

All the five elephants were part of the same herd, he said.
