Crime Branch begins grilling Panda

Despite his involvement in at least 12 cases under investigation by the State Crime Branch , including that of the murder of VHP leader Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati, the sleuths of the Crime Branch on Thursday began grilling Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda in connection with only Nayagarh armoury loot incident of 2008 and attack on Nayagarh police station of the same year.

Kept in a special enclosure inside the Crime Branch office here at the police headquarters, Mr. Panda was subjected to interrogation in two phases on the day in an adjacent special chamber. Panda was brought here on Wednesday evening on a nine-day remand after court orders and his interrogation began amid tight security. The rebel leader’s wife and his advocate were present .
