Judicial Magistrate Ranjeet Singh on Wednesday decided to hear the plea, on November 17, of the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) special investigation unit for recording voice samples of eight Himachal Pradesh Police officials. The officials were members of the special investigative team (SIT) in the Shimla schoolgirl rape and murder case.

The CBI arrested these police officials, including an Inspector General of Police (IGP) Zahur H. Zaidi and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Manoj Joshi, and six others, after the custodial death of an alleged accused Suraj Kumar. The CBI is soon to place the charge sheet against these policemen before the Court.

The SIT had arrested six people, most of them from Uttarakhand and Nepal, in the schoolgirl’s rape and murder case after Statewide protests over the case. The girl was kidnapped on July 4 and her body was found deep in a forest on July 6 by her relatives.

Meanwhile, a CBI team has returned to Mahasu and Bankufar in Kotkhai, where the girl was murdered, to continue with the investigation.
