With no permanent solution possible, the Supreme Court on Tuesday granted time till May 31, 2014 for residents of the Campa Cola housing society in Mumbai to vacate their premises.
A Bench of Justices G.S. Singhvi and S. Nagappan passed this order after Attorney-General G.E. Vahanvati said no specific proposal for a permanent solution could be given by him on behalf of the Municipal Corporation.
The Bench had on November 13 taken suo motu cognisance of media reports, in particular in The Hindu , about the plight of the residents, and stayed till further orders demolition of the unauthorised flats.
On Tuesday, the Bench said extension of time was subject to the residents giving an undertaking, within six weeks, that they would vacate the premises. “If no undertaking is given, the Municipal Corporation will be entitled to take action in accordance with the February 27, 2013 order.”
