December 26, 2013 01:32 am | Updated 01:32 am IST - JAIPUR:

The newly elected Bharatiya Janata Party-led government in Rajasthan has utilised the National Consumer Day to spell out its roadmap for consumer welfare. It proposes to streamline the Department of Consumer Affairs to protect consumers’ rights and redress their grievances.

State Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Hem Singh Bhadana, addressing a function marking the National Consumer Day here on Tuesday, said the consumers being exploited at various levels would be protected through a special drive which would generate awareness and ensure justice for them. Consumers in the State had the rights to information, selection, education, hearing and compensation, said Mr. Bhadana. About 1,000 consumer clubs functioning across the State under a Centrally-sponsored scheme would be strengthened with the allocation of funds to the tune of Rs.1 crore, he added.

The Minister said the State Government would shortly open consumer information and service centres at all district headquarters.
