: As Opposition Congress and BJP continued to stall proceedings of the Odisha Assembly for the second consecutive day on Thursday demanding a roll back of power tariff hike, the Congress announced to organise demonstrations in all 30 district headquarters towns in Odisha on March 30.
The BJP also announced that they will stage a dharna outside Raj Bhavan in Bhubaneswar on Friday in protest against the electricity tariff hike order passed by the Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC0).
As per the OERC order, general consumers will pay 20 paise more per unit, while 40 paise more per unit will be charged for the agriculture sector with effect from April 1.
Meanwhile, the Odisha Power Consumers’ Federation gave a call for a State-wide hartal on March 31 in protest against power tariff hike order passed by OERC.
Terming the hike order “illogical”, the Federation demanded immediate revocation of the order. It also urged various Opposition parties and trade unions to extend their support to the hartal and make it a success.
