Alleging that the present Cuttack Municipal Commission (CMC) council headed by the BJD is indulging in corruption, opposition Congress party has demanded dissolution of the Council and the launching of CBI inquiry into the embezzlement of funds meant for developmental work.
The Cuttack Congress led by its president Md Moqim on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to the Revenue Divisional Commissioner (Central Division) Arvind Padhee seeking his immediate intervention to dissolve the Council forthwith.
Mr Moqim said the BJD corporators in the city were booked by the state vigilance sleuths in connection with relief material loot incident for which the State Government was contemplating to delay the municipal elections in the city. The present Council was formed in February 2009 and hence steps should have been taken by now to form the next council, Mr Moquim said.
“The vigilance sleuths are also not investigating into the relief material case properly,” the Congress leader said alleging that the prosecution was trying its best to keep the BJD MLAs and city Mayor out of the investigation purview. Earlier, Congress workers came in a rally holding placards and shouting slogans against the Council and the State government.
