Even as the Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)] appeared to toughen its stand, the Congress leadership on Tuesday mounted a concerted efforts to address the grievances of the party.

Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president V.M. Sudheran held discussions with Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Home Ramesh Chennithala on the issue. The KPCC would take a serious view of the inquiry report on the defeat of JD(U) State president M.P. Veerendrakumar in the Lok Sabha election in Palakkad, he said.

Mr. Chandy and Mr. Chennithala also hinted at the possibility of the Congress leadership going the extra mile to mollify the JD(U), which has given clear hints about its unhappiness with the ruling United Democratic Front. Mr. Veerendrakumar himself had spoken in dark terms on Monday about the possibility of his party moving out of the UDF in the near future.
