The Congress has submitted a memorandum to Governor N.N. Vohra and sought his intervention to ensure free and fair polls.

A Congress delegation described the lowest ever voter turnout of 2% in re-polling at 38 polling stations in the Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency as “the State government’s failure on all fronts”.

“The government is losing the confidence of the people. Any future elections in Jammu and Kashmir should be held under Governor’s rule in order to ensure free, fair and successful conduct of the electoral process,” demanded the delegation.

The delegation, headed by J&K Pradesh Congress Committee chief G.A Mir, demanded imposition of the governor’s rule.

The delegation included senior leaders Sham Lal Sharma, Nawang Rigzin Jora, Ghulam Mohammad Saroori, Haji Rasheed, Aijaz Ahmed Khan, Mula Ram, MLA Mohd Amin Bhat, MLA Usman Majid and MLA Gulzar Wani.

The Congress leaders also pointed to the alleged “partisan role of the present dispensation in the conduct of elections”.
