Communist Party of India (Marxist) State secretary and MLA M.Y. Tarigami has said that the composition of the group of interlocutors to hold a sustained dialogue in Jammu and Kashmir is unsatisfactory because it may not serve the purpose.
“Although we have full faith in the integrity and honesty of the people who have been named interlocutors, we have, all along, been vehemently demanding the constitution of a parliamentary panel keeping in view the political nature of the present crisis,” Mr. Tarigami said in a statement.
Credibility deficit
He said the government's initiatives in the past to hold dialogue in Kashmir with dissenters suffered due to a trust and credibility deficit, and that the institution of dialogue deserved a serious approach keeping in view the sensitivities involved in the Kashmir issue.
“We were expecting that the Central government would form the group of interlocutors taking into consideration past experiences in dialogue in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
“But it seems yet again that a causal approach has been adopted, much to the disappointment of those who are eager to address the issue through the process of dialogue and debate.”
