At least 34 civil organisations in Manipur have stepped up their demand to terminate the services of Chaoba Okram, a coach of Sports Authority of India, Imphal for allegedly molesting five girl sportspersons inside the SAI complex. They are not satisfied with the suspension of the coach from service and are demanding immediate termination.

Some days back these girls had levelled the serious charge against their coach. There have been demands from the family members and other women activists to punish the coach in a deterrant way. The accused had been arrested. Reports say that he is subjected to police interrogation.

A public meeting was held on Friday at Tera in Imphal West district.

The coordinating committee of the 34 civil organisations said that efforts should be made to spruce up the SAI so as to groom more sportspersons. Manipur is the power house of sportspersons in the country. In fact many sportspersons from Manipur have been bringing laurels from home and abroad. The civil organisations said that five coaches and employees in SAI are trying to protect the accused. They are demanding punishment to these five persons.

TMC MLA Jaikishan Khumukcham had first exposed the molestation of the five girl players during the just concluded budget session of the Manipur Assembly.
