: The recruitment of child soldiers to proscribed underground organisations in Manipur has once again drawn the ire of locals.

An irate mob torched the house of a 19-year-old ‘insurgent’ girl on Wednesday night in Thoubal district on grounds that she was luring minor girls as child soldiers.

Villagers of Heirok Part II in Thoubal district held a kangaroo court on Wednesday night and resolved to burn the house of Langlen Laishram.

The house was gutted. Fire-fighters were not informed. The angry villagers told reporters that the girl and her parents had recently migrated to the village.

Personnel of shock troops of the Manipur police had intercepted a vehicle on November 17 at Pallel near the Manipur-Myanmar border on receipt of intelligence inputs. It was going to Moreh, on the border of India and Myanmar. They arrested Laishram and her mother.
